Chew Jetty 姓周桥 (One of the Clan Jetty) - UNESCO World Heritage Site - Penang Island.

Once we finished strolling along the Armenian Street and Acheh Street, we continue our walking journey to Chew Jetty (the clan jetty in Penang) (N5.41292 E100.33962). This area became a Tourist hotspot many years ago, and there is a public parking area beside the main road of Pengalan Weld.

"Having been a home on stilts on the shores for the Chew Clan community more than a century and is still now, the Chew Jetty has withstood the test of time and a strong testament of living heritage for Penang and the world to mesmerize.
Started merely as a wooden passageway and slowly created into a cluster of houses perch above the sea shores by stilts above the never ending shifting tides, this communal site is locked in a time zone by itself, disregarding the urban development that is taking place around it."

There was a old and unique coffee shop (kopitiam) on the left of the entrance, I like the traditional atmosphere very much!
Before we start the tour in Chew Jetty, there were many signages to read though...

姓周桥 - Chew Jetty (Unesco World Heritage Site)
Established : Mid 19th Century
Ancestor's origin : Xinglingshe Village, TongAn District, Quangzhou Pretecture, Fujian Province - China.
Length : Part 1 - 182 meter, Part 2 - 122 meter
Total house : 75 units.

Leave your footprint, not rubbish...

Once we stepped in, the area was a bit similar with Kukup, Johor. The only different is Kukup is slowly upgraded to mostly concrete walkway and also the houses, but in Chew Jetty...most of it still remain in timber...the walkway and the houses...

The small alley above might connected to the part 2...I think...

We spotted the filming house in the movie of Ice Kacang Puppy Love ( 初恋红豆冰) which was the home of Eric Moo (巫啟賢).

Along the way, I saw this homestay signage...you can google it to find out more info about it...
I think that will be a totaly different experience to stay in the Clan Jetty, I wish I have a chance to stay there in the future...

The last part of the Chew Jetty...

We spotted another mural from Ernest Zacharevic - Children in the boat.

This mural will fade more faster than others I believe, it's because nearby the sea...

We hanged around the area for a while and luckily that was not very hot, the scenic view really made us relax...and I like the surrounding...

I think the ferries are provide the convenience for the local to go to other clan jetty, because this is not the only clan jetty around here...there are Tan Jetty, Lee Jetty, Mixed Clan Jetty and Yeoh Jetty located not too far away...

I had a chat with an old lady who selling some souvenirs along the walkway in Chew Jetty. She was friendly and told us that all the youngsters have gone for work, and most of them are not staying here anymore...they only back once in the while and during Chinese New Year. So I guess, the place will be crowded during the coming Chinese New Year.

Exploring the Street Art at Lebuh Armenian (street), Penang Island.

We visited the Armenian Street (N5.41300 E100.33954) of Penang on one of the sunny day, the purpose was to search and locate the Street Art (Mural) of Ernest Zacharevic who painted a beautiful street painting on the wall of the pre-war shoplots and houses around the area. It was a awesome effort by the Lithuanian artist - Ernest who given a new life to the old town...

Lebuh Armenian (street)

"Ernest Zacharevic is a young Lithuania-born artist who is "making a scene" on the streets of George Town, Penang. This comes in the form of beautifully executed wall paintings, or murals, at selected streets in the inner city. The project, known as Mirrors George Town, is part of George Town Festival 2012.

Ernest Zacharevic's wall paintings in George Town include figure drawings and portraitures that celebrate the exuberance of life in the inner city. They range from the pensive "Boy on a Bike", the lively "Little Children on a Bicycle" to the whimsical "Little Boy with Pet Dinosaur".

So far six murals have been completed, with perhaps one more in the making. The project is funded by George Town Festival while the paint was sponsored by a paint company, Murobond." Source from here...

The area was full of tourist and been waiting for about 10 minutes to let the tourists snap their photos together with the 'children'...

I never walk in this street before after so many years...so I guess I have to thanks to Ernest! :)

After the first mural, we were attracted by a small shop like a art centre or souvenirs shop just not too far away...

At first, it was because of the special the signage...

follow by the recycle chairs...

Then...nice music played by an old man who sit just next to the signage...
He was playing on a unique musical instrument which I never seen it before!

My daughter was totally attracted by the music and stood there more than 15 minutes! The old man was kind to show my daughter the technique of playing it in the later part...

Some of the shops had coverted to a art galley and cafes...just like this Ederweiss Swiss Cafe...

And the Colonial Hainanese Restaurant, but too bad it was close that day...

The Cafe and Restaurant were located just next to the movie firming area - Anna and the King on 1999.

Another 2 local Arts appeared in front of us...I believe these 2 were not from Ernest.

It was not a mural, it was made from steels and the shadows reflected on the wall...

I found these old bicycle shop was really classic and hardly can find one nowadays...

And we discovered the Mr Sun Yat Sen Penang base also located in the street, it became the Sun Yat Sen Museum today...

We continued our walk on Acheh Street...another Sun Yat Sen base is located in the street...

Suddenly my curious daughter stuck again in front of a woodcraft shop! She was observing the carpenter crafting the Chinese words on a piece of wood...I don't know how to call this piece of wood but you can see it hanged at the main door at every old shops or houses...

About 100 meters from the intersection of Armenian Street and Acheh Street, we found another mural in Cannon Street - "Reaching up".

This mural was easy to locate where it was just behind a Khoo Kongsi big signage...

We had a break after the end of the Acheh Street and we missed the other mural which located along the street - The Famous Wooden Clog Painter Mr Ng Chai Tiam. Oh! I think it was a good reason for me to re-visit the Armenian Street again! :)

I will continued our searching for the murals at Penang in my next blog post...
